In this Tuesdays Tips I would like to explain how you could apply highlighter. Maybe you already know how to apply highlighter or you just do it your own way, but it’s always nice to go back to the basics. If you’re new with make-up or using highlighter, this could be a really good way to teach you how to apply highlighter. Either way, I hope you’ll enjoy!
First of all, you have to think about what kind of look you want. Are you going for a natural glowing look or do you want to blind people with your glow? Read on to learn how to highlight based on your personal preference.
If you don’t like glitters or a really shiny highlighter, you can also highlight with an concealer to let your features stand out. Try to use a matte concealer two shades lighter than your skintone. Start highlighting the high points of your face and use a sponge or brush to blend this. Some of my favorite matte concealers are the Colourpop No Filter Concealer and the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer.
This is for the girls who like a subtle glow which looks super natural and healthy. To create this, you can mix your moisturizer with a liquid highlighter before applying it. Or if you want to highlight specific areas, use your fingers to apply a liquid or shimmer-free highlighter. For example the MAC Cosmetics Strobe Cream or the Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Glow.
If you want a little bit of a popping glow, you can use a shimmery powder or cream highlighter along your cheekbones and under your brow bones. If you want a subtile look, use a fan brush. If you would like a less subtile look you can use a small face or blush brush. Don’t use this powder all over you face (such as forehead or chin) cause it can make your skin look oily. My favorite highlighters in this category are the Kylie Cosmetics Kylighters and BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector.
Glow to the moon and back
Last but definitely not least, the blinding highlight. Some highlighters are amazingly pigmented and super blinding, such as Jeffree Star Cosmetics Skin Frost highlighters and Ofra Cosmetics highlighters. You can use this dry with a brush or wet a beautyblender/brush and apply it. When you wet a brush or sponge you’ll definitely be getting a intense glow! If you think it’s too much glow, you can always take it down with a little foundation over it.
I hope you guys enjoyed this more informative Tuesdays Tips. Let me know in the comments what your favorite kind of glow is!
See you next time loves,
