I don’t know about you but I love a spa day at home now and then. It’s a form of self-care to me where I take the time to fully relax and treat myself with nice body products. Recreating a spa day at home doesn’t have to be hard or expensive at all. I’m going to share 8 easy tips to recreating a spa day and I promise you’ll feel just as relaxed as you feel when leaving an actual spa.
Let’s start off by putting your phone away. This has to be a completely relaxing day so no phones allowed.
You want to make it as comfortable as possible for yourself so make sure you bought (or baked) some snacks and drinks. I prefer drinking water, staying hydrated is the best for your organs as well as your skin. If you don’t like just water, try putting some fruits in it. Delicious combinations are mango and ginger or cucumber and lemon.
The next step is creating a relaxed ambiance. Turn the lights down, light some candles and put on your favorite music. I would suggest creating a list with your favorite, relaxing songs because hardcore normally doesn’t really fit a relaxing surrounding. If you need some inspiration, here is a Chill Hits list from Spotify. If you like scents, go for scented candles or turn on an essential oil diffuser if you have one.
The last step is cleaning your face if you still have makeup on. Even if you haven’t worn makeup, it’s always good to start to clean your face first. Getting rid of all the dirt, if it’s makeup our pollution, is a great start for your at home spa day.
Oh and make sure you’re wearing something comfortable! I would suggest going for just a robe because my tips will include bodycare and that’s just the easiest but if you’re skipping that part or want to wear at least something, that’s totally fine but make sure it’s comfortable!
So now that we’re fully prepared to treat ourselves, let’s get into the actual at home spa day tips! 1,2,3…. RELAX!
8 Tips for your at home Spa Day
1. Steam your face
If you like, it’s possible to steam your face. You need boiling water for this and if you like, some essential oils. Put the water on and wait till it starts boiling. While you’re waiting, it’s a perfect time to wet a towel and put it in the magnetron for about 20-30 seconds, so it’s hot but not too hot. Put this on your face so it’ll open up your pores and helps you relax!
Once the water is boiling, carefully put your head above it (turn the heat a bit down so it’s pleasantly warm and not too warm) for about 5 minutes. After this, carefully scrub/exfoliate your face. I would recommend the Kylie Skin Walnut Face Scrub or the Wishful Yo Glow Facial Enzyme Scrub. If you already have other products at home, that’s totally fine as well.
2. Bath or Shower
Then I like to take a warm bath, or if you haven’t a bath yourself, a warm shower will do too. Use a nice smelling bath bomb or shower gel and take a moment for yourself to relax.
After I relaxed for a while, I’m going to scrub my whole body As a body scrub, I would recommend Kylie Skin Coconut Body Scrub. If you already have other products at home, that’s totally fine as well.
3. Hair Mask & Face Mask
I like to treat my hair to something extra while I’m in bath or showering, so I put on a hair mask. I personally like hydrating masks or anti-frizz masks. Right now my favorite hair mask is the IGK Offline 3-Minute Hydration Hair Mask.
I really love putting on a face mask as well. I’m obsessed with the hydrating Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask. But also the Milk Makeup Matcha Detoxifying Face Mask is once of my favorites. I personally look at my skin that day and decide what it needs! If I need hydration, I’ll go for the Summer Fridays Mask and if I need a detox because I have some breakouts, I’ll go for the Milk Makeup mask.
4. Mask any other body part
If you would like to go full in with the masks, there are way more masks nowadays than just for your face and hair. It’s possible to get yourself some hand masks, feet masks, lip masks, eye masks, and even butt masks lol. I’m not joking, Sephora is selling butt masks! So you can take it as far as you would like!
5. Moisturize your face
Make sure to moisturize your face. I like to apply a hydrating face cream but you might prefer something else. Use products you know are the best for your skin type. I always start with a hydrating serum, The Ordinary, or a Vitamine C serum, Glossier Vitamin C Serum, for glowy skin. Then I’m using my Glossier Rich Moisturizer Cream and finish with the Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Eye Cream.
6. Self Tan and/or Body Lotion
Now it’s time to start moisturizing your body with a body lotion or body cream. My all-time favorite is definitely the Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Cream. The smell is absolutely amazing and the cream is super hydrating. I wrote a review about the cream, so if you would like more details please click here.
Self tan isn’t necessary but if you would like to add a little tan, it’s best to apply after your body lotion or body cream. Wait until it’s fully dry – and eat some prepped snacks! Don’t forget to drink water either. Then go ahead and apply the self tan.
I would recommend the Bali Body self tan products, they have an Ultra Dark Self Tanning Mousse and a Dark Self Tanning Mousse and Face Water, as well as a Gradual Tan. It depends on your preferences which to go for but I love all three of their products so you don’t go wrong with Bali Body. If you decide to go for the mousse, don’t forget to get yourself a tanning mitt as well. This makes it way easier to apply the mousse and it will look streak-free!
7. Shape your brows
If you haven’t looked after your brows for a while, it’s probably time to shape them again. Time to pluck the little hairs and get back to your favorite brow shape.
Use a brush to comb through your brows, first brush your hairs up to get the hairs beneath your brow. Then brush your hairs down to see if there are random hairs above your brow you want to get rid of. If you have long brow hairs, you can take a little scissor and cut them shorter.
8. Do your nails
I’m wearing acrylics so I don’t need to paint my nails, but if you’re not wearing acrylics you can easily put on a nice spring color. Here’s some inspiration. After painting them, rub in some oil (once your nails are dry obviously) and put on a hand cream for super soft and great looking hands!
I also like to paint my toenails as well. I cut them if necessary and then paint them in a bright color, such as pink. Once this is done, I feel completely new and refreshed!
