There’s one thing I love most about beauty and that’s putting products to the test. I want to find out if a product is a hit or a miss. In my beauty reviews, you’ll only find 100% honest thoughts and opinions, so you know what beauty product is worth spending your money on. In today’s post, I’m putting the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk and The Duchess Lipsticks to the test. Keep reading for swatches and my in-depth review.

Charlotte Tilbury was born in London, but grew up in a wonderfully creative environment with her parents in bohemian Ibiza, surrounded by artists, actors, writers, and musicians. Her father is a painter and her mother is a luxury production manager, so Charlotte knew that she would do something creative too and when she met the inspirational makeup artist Mary Greenwell, she was inspired to train at the Glauca Rossi School of Makeup in London and pursue a career as a makeup artist.

As a determined young makeup artist, I was persistent. I was constantly building my network of professional peers including photographers, models and stylists – many of whom I still work with today. I believe that every woman wants to feel beautiful, powerful and sexy and that makeup is a great way to achieve this. Makeup gives you INSTANT CONFIDENCE. It’s about feeling as fabulous on the outside as you do on the inside.

– Charlotte Tilbury

Throughout Charlotte’s career, she worked as a Creative Consultant with many fantastic beauty brands and innovative labs, including Tom Ford, Mac, Helena Rubinstein, and Chanel – so she’s now pouring all of her secrets, industry know-how and passion into her own range which she launched in 2013. She believes in red-carpet skincare and makeup that is:

  • Easy to choose
  • Easy to use
  • Easy to gift

I went from only owning 1 lip liner to owning multiple lip liners, lipsticks, eyeshadows, eyeliners, and mascara. That isn’t for nothing. Even though Charlotte Tilbury is definitely a high-end brand, with a higher price point, I’m going to explain why I love the brand. In today’s review, I’ll be talking about the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk and The Duchess Lipsticks.

I already reviewed the Charlotte Tilbury Bar of Gold highlighter palette which I really love. If you know a little bit about the brand, then you’ll know that Pillow Talk is the most iconic shade of the whole range but why? Let’s dive into that today!

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk And The Duchess Lipsticks

So the two lipsticks I’ve bought recently are Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk, the OG, and The Duchess. I love shades which are more on the nude side as well as more pinkish. I feel like brownish or peachy shade tends to make my teeth look yellow.

Just a little heads up, because Pillow Talk is such a huge bestseller, Charlotte Tilbury made a whole Pillow Talk range including gloss, eyeshadow palettes, blushes, eyeliner, etc. She recentely came out with darker Pillow Talk shades so it would fit a wider audience as well.

Charlotte Tilbury is available at their own website and at retailers such as Cult Beauty and Sephora. They probably have multiple distribution centres so it’s very easy to get your products without having to pay for huge custom charges. Yay!

Charlotte Tilbury and their suppliers do not currently test their products or ingredients used in their products on animals for cosmetic purposes. In addition, they do not use third parties to carry out any of those tests. Moreover, Charlotte Tilbury has many products for vegan-friendly customers.

Even though the website mentions that Charlotte Tilbury is cruelty-free, I read something about Charlotte Tilbury using a loophole to sell products in China. However, this is based on assumptions and not facts. If you want to read more about this, please check out this website

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk and The Duchess Lipsticks Swatches

The top one is Pillow Talk and the bottom one is The Duchess, both very stunning colors. Pillow Talk is more of a ‘my lips but better’ shade where the Duchess gives a little bit of extra color to the lips. Pillow Talk is matte looking, but not drying on the lips, while The Duchess is a creamy lipstick.

The tips are different as well as the formula. Pillow Talk has a more flat tip where The Duchess has the ‘normal’ lipstick tip. Personally, I have no favorite, I think both works well. I think Pillow Talk is still easy to work precisely with as well as The Duchess.

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk and The Duchess Lipsticks Review

I totally get why Pillow Talk is such a cult favorite lipstick. It’s a beautiful shade, looks matte but doesn’t feel drying at all, stays on at least 4-5 hours and wears off nicely too. No crumbling or whatsoever. I’m aware that the lipstick is pricey but I do think it’s worth its price tag. It’s one of my favorite lipsticks, shade wise as well as formula wise. I love it!

The Duchess is also a very beautiful shade, perfect for days I want to wear a nude lipstick but let it show a bit more if this makes sense. The formula is very nice, creamy and pigmented. Just like Pillow Talk, this lipstick is long-wearing but it did wear off a little sooner. I believe it stayed on for like 3.5-4 hours. Which in my opinion is still long for a creamy lipstick.

To be honest, I don’t have anything bad to say about these lipsticks. I really like them both and I wear them a lot! Especially Pillow Talk became my go-to shade.

Have you ever tried the iconic Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk? Or maybe The Duchess? What do you think of them? Let’s discuss in the comments. 🙂

  2. Ahhh Pillow Talk has been on my list to try for so long – the swatch looks super beautiful. Its great the formula looks matte but still feels comfortable. I really am excited to keep trying more from the brand and hopefully the full Pillow Talk range (particularly the blushes and eye quad).

    1. Pillow Talk is worth spending your money on for sure. Might be a good one to buy during the Spring Sale at Sephora? Totally not convincing you to buy something while we’re on a low buy lmao. I just got the Pillow Talk palette (the big one) and it made me even more obsessed with the whole Pillow Talk range. I’m pretty sure it’s not my last product from the range lol.

  3. They both look beautiful, I actually have the Pillow Talk lip liner and the shade is the perfect match for my lips so I’m definitely getting the lipstick too! The Dutchess looks pretty too but probably too warm for me

    1. I love the Pillow Talk lip liner too! This kinda convinced me to get the lipstick as well haha. The Duchess is definitely more of a warm-toned shade so I would skip that one if that’s not your thing. 🙂

  4. I love trying out different lipsticks! Ooooohooo I have this same Lipstick too! Her brand is so easy to use and even gift to others. The scent of the lipstick reminds me of chocolate hehe. I love the texture of the lipstick. They stay in for a while! Thanks for sharing!

  5. I already own pillow talk which I love! But The Duchess lipstick now caught my attention! I love the more pink tone ? Have you seen the lipsticks called “Kidman’s Kiss” and “Dance floor Princess” ? I’ve been eyeing these for a hot minute! Hugs

  6. Dear Simone
Can you Tell me where I can order the Lipstick THE DUCHESS? As far as I know this colour is discontinued at Charlotte Tilbury stores.
    Thank you for your reply.
