I’ve started this series a couple of weeks (well I guess months) ago and due to the fact I got pretty busy with school and work, I couldn’t find the time to continue with this series. BUT here it is again! In this Makeup Organizing Series blogpost I’m going to take you with me through the process of organizing my lipstick drawer. Are you ready for some very handy DIY tips? Then keep on reading Organizing My Lipstick Drawer | Makeup Organizing Series!
A couple of weeks ago, I was super restless and multiple places in my house were messy so I couldn’t really relax. I just couldn’t deal with the messy drawers anymore! So I realized it was time to clean out the mess, declutter and organize.
One of the first things I started to organize was my lipstick drawer. I had some clear trays which held my lipsticks but it wasn’t really easy to use and they became too full. It was time for something new, different and more practical! I decided to do a little DIY project since I’ve found some IKEA dividers, which you can build however you want.
Okay well, I’m a little bit ashamed by this haha, it looks so messy! On the left side, you can see my single liquid lipsticks, glosses and other liquid lipsticks. The right side has all my lipsticks, some smaller glosses, and lip liners. Everything is laying everywhere and on top of each other as well. In the back, you can still see the packaging of some Kylie Cosmetics liquid lipsticks which I couldn’t throw away haha. Anyway, I think you can understand why I felt restless.
Since my whole vanity is custom made, I couldn’t really find dividers who fit in my drawers. Then I found these things in IKEA! As you can see, you can cut them however you want. It’s a custom-made divider! However, it’s plastic and not very easy to cut. But it worked fine for me.
So first I started with measuring how much space my lipsticks needed. For example, I have round lipsticks as well as square lipsticks. Some are bigger and some are smaller. So I decided to make 2 bigger rows and all the other rows are a little bit smaller. When I knew how I wanted it, I only had to cut the dividers. In the first picture, you can see that all the dividers are still long and I didn’t make any boxes yet. On the second picture, you can see that I started with cutting the dividers into smaller pieces, so it would be easier to pick up a lipstick. In the picture on the right, you can see the first row of boxes I’ve made.
I’m not a very good DIY person but this was very easy to build. It’s super nice because you can decide yourself what you like best and start cutting the dividers the way you want them to look like.
And this is after! I’ve kept the acrylic trays for my liquid lipsticks, glosses and other lip products which are longer. All my lipsticks went into my self-made divider. And the fun part is that my lip pencils fit perfectly on the side so that’s awesome! To be honest, I think this drawer looks great! It’s very organized, very easy to use and I still have more space to store liquid lipsticks and normal lipsticks. I’m very happy with the way it turned out!
As you might’ve noticed I keep some of my lipsticks and lipglosses in the actual packaging. I actually want them out of the packaging but I don’t find it very handy because I can’t see which shade it is from the top and I have to lift it up till I find the shade I want. If you have tips for this, please let me know in the comments!
I’ve been using this drawer a couple of weeks now and I really like it. I can see myself grab for different lipsticks because it’s way easier to see and pick one. Before I just grabbed one which was easy to grab. It’s awesome and I can really recommend trying this if you’re looking for ways to store your lipsticks!
I’ve bought the Jeffree Star Cosmetics lipstick drawer for my Kylie Cosmetics High Glosses and I’ve added my MAC lipsticks to this drawer as well. Just a little disclaimer: the High Glosses doesn’t really fit perfectly, they’re just a little bigger than the actual hole but I just pushed through to make the holes bigger lol. It works this way so I think it’s cute to store them like this!
Hope to see you next times loves,
