There are two products I can’t live without since I was 12 and these items are eyeliner and mascara. For some reason, I was never patient enough to teach myself how to do winged eyeliner but lately, I have been practicing a lot. I know it’s still not perfect but I’m going to talk about my all-time favorite eyeliner and a new mascara I tried recently. Moreover, I’ll be sharing some hacks to help you improve your eyeliner skills to create a beautiful wing or an intense cat eye!

Let’s first start off by mentioning that Kat Von D Beauty changed their name to KVD Vegan Beauty because Kat Von D left the company and is now fully owned by Kendo.
If you know me, you know that my holy grail eyeliner is the KVD Vegan Beauty Tattoo Liner in Trooper. I have been using this eyeliner for years! I’m sure I’m not the only one, this eyeliner is well-loved by the whole beauty community.
I’m an affiliate partner of KVD Vegan Beauty, which means that I’ll earn a little commission if you purchase anything through my link. It also means that when KVD Beauty announced an affiliate campaign, I was able to join. KVD Vegan Beauty kindly sent me 2 samples: one Tattoo Liner in Trooper (black) and one Go Big or Go Home mascara. Both products are their hero products and will help achieve the purrfect cat eye (this was a bad joke wasn’t it? lol). So that’s what we’re going to do today! I created two different cat eye/winged eyeliner looks and I’ll walk you through how I created them.
This post isn’t sponsored, KVD Vegan Beauty only gifted me these products.
How To Do Winged Eyeliner
The first look I created is a simple winged eyeliner look. I always apply a little bit of a kohl eye pencil on the lower lash line to let my eyes speak a little bit more but this is obviously not necessary.
It’s important to have a look at your eye shape. When I tried creating a winged eyeliner look back in the days, I never did this and ended up with an invisible wing because I placed the wing too high and it got lost in my crease lol. Moreover, it helped me lots to focus on the end of my lower lash line and keep that as a starting point for my wing. I’m not starting the wing exactly at the end of my lower lash line but I’m following that line and place it a little bit above the lower lash line.
Once I have that first line, I start connecting the outer corner to the middle of my lid. You might have a little gap in your outline but that’s fine because you can fill it up. That’s the step I’m taking now, make sure the wing is fully filled and I also remove little mistakes if I made one. Then I connect the line I drew from the middle of my eye to the inner corner.
That’s it! If it’s your first time trying a winged liner, you probably need to practice before it actually looks sharp. I still need some practicing too when it comes to very sharp lines. However, I do think it’s way easier to create a sharp line when I’m using the Tattoo Liner. The liner glides on and the tip is very sharp so it makes it easier to draw thin lines. The liner is always super pigmented and for some reason, it never dries out. I’ve had one which I pretty much used for 1.5 years, every single day, without it drying out or being less pigmented.
What I also love about this eyeliner is that it’s waterproof and smudge resistant. I don’t think I have any other eyeliner in my collection that stays on so good as this one.
Intense Cat Eye
I recently tried to recreate Kim Kardashian’s Vanity Fair Oscar Party Look and she had like an intense cat-eye look. The first steps of this look are exactly the same as the normal winged eyeliner look but to create that intense effect, I drew eyeliner all around my eyes. Also the inner corners. I then went over with a kohl pencil to smudge it a little bit.
Then I went in again with the eyeliner to sharpen the wing and make it slightly longer for an intense effect. You can make this look as intense as you want. I did less kohl pencil on my lower lash line than the actual Kim Kardashian look because I started to look like Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Caribbean) lol but if you can pull off a very intense black lower line than go ahead! I think it’s super cool.
KVD Vegan Beauty Go Big or go Home Mascara
I also used the Go Big or Gome Home mascara in the first winged eyeliner look and this is how it looks close up. The left picture is my eye with only eyeliner and no mascara yet. The right picture is me wearing the eyeliner and the mascara.
I was pleasantly surprised by how good the mascara looked! It was very easy to apply and as you can tell it added lots of length to my lashes. The applicator/brush is very nice too, and I’m very picky when it comes to a mascara applicator. The mascara stayed on all day just like the eyeliner!
I knew I liked the eyeliner but to be honest, I was skeptical about the mascara. I’m pretty picky when it comes to mascara formulas and applicators so not many mascaras pass my test. This one is actually a mascara I see myself reaching for. I really liked the way it looked and the length it gave my lashes so I’m definitely going to use this way more often! The eyeliner is and always will be my holy grail.
- The Tattoo Liner is available in two shades: Trooper (black) and Mad Max Brown (brown). Both the liners retail for $21.
- The Go Big or Go Home Mascara is just available in Trooper (black) and retails for $24.
Another thing I really like about the products is that they’re both 100% vegan and cruelty-free.
