There are two products I can’t live without since I was 12 and these items are eyeliner and mascara. For some reason, I was never patient enough to teach myself how to do winged eyeliner but lately, I have been practicing a lot. I know it’s still not perfect but I’m going to talk about my all-time favorite eyeliner and a new mascara I tried recently. Moreover, I’ll be sharing some hacks to help you improve your eyeliner skills to create a beautiful wing or an intense cat eye!

However, I will only ever recommend products/services that I love, and feel are valuable to my audience. In addition to that, my opinions are my own and always honest. Let’s first start off by mentioning that Kat Von D Beauty changed their name to KVD Vegan Beauty because Kat Von D left the company and is now fully owned by Kendo.

If you know me, you know that my holy grail eyeliner is the KVD Vegan Beauty Tattoo Liner in Trooper. I have been using this eyeliner for years! I’m sure I’m not the only one, this eyeliner is well-loved by the whole beauty community.

I’m an affiliate partner of KVD Vegan Beauty, which means that I’ll earn a little commission if you purchase anything through my link. It also means that when KVD Beauty announced an affiliate campaign, I was able to join. KVD Vegan Beauty kindly sent me 2 samples: one Tattoo Liner in Trooper (black) and one Go Big or Go Home mascara. Both products are their hero products and will help achieve the purrfect cat eye (this was a bad joke wasn’t it? lol).  So that’s what we’re going to do today! I created two different cat eye/winged eyeliner looks and I’ll walk you through how I created them.

This post isn’t sponsored, KVD Vegan Beauty only gifted me these products.

How To Do Winged Eyeliner

The first look I created is a simple winged eyeliner look. I always apply a little bit of a kohl eye pencil on the lower lash line to let my eyes speak a little bit more but this is obviously not necessary.

It’s important to have a look at your eye shape. When I tried creating a winged eyeliner look back in the days, I never did this and ended up with an invisible wing because I placed the wing too high and it got lost in my crease lol. Moreover, it helped me lots to focus on the end of my lower lash line and keep that as a starting point for my wing. I’m not starting the wing exactly at the end of my lower lash line but I’m following that line and place it a little bit above the lower lash line.

Once I have that first line, I start connecting the outer corner to the middle of my lid. You might have a little gap in your outline but that’s fine because you can fill it up. That’s the step I’m taking now, make sure the wing is fully filled and I also remove little mistakes if I made one. Then I connect the line I drew from the middle of my eye to the inner corner.

That’s it! If it’s your first time trying a winged liner, you probably need to practice before it actually looks sharp. I still need some practicing too when it comes to very sharp lines. However, I do think it’s way easier to create a sharp line when I’m using the Tattoo Liner. The liner glides on and the tip is very sharp so it makes it easier to draw thin lines. The liner is always super pigmented and for some reason, it never dries out. I’ve had one which I pretty much used for 1.5 years, every single day, without it drying out or being less pigmented.

What I also love about this eyeliner is that it’s waterproof and smudge resistant. I don’t think I have any other eyeliner in my collection that stays on so good as this one.

Intense Cat Eye

I recently tried to recreate Kim Kardashian’s Vanity Fair Oscar Party Look and she had like an intense cat-eye look. The first steps of this look are exactly the same as the normal winged eyeliner look but to create that intense effect, I drew eyeliner all around my eyes. Also the inner corners. I then went over with a kohl pencil to smudge it a little bit.

Then I went in again with the eyeliner to sharpen the wing and make it slightly longer for an intense effect. You can make this look as intense as you want. I did less kohl pencil on my lower lash line than the actual Kim Kardashian look because I started to look like Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Caribbean) lol but if you can pull off a very intense black lower line than go ahead! I think it’s super cool.

KVD Vegan Beauty Go Big or go Home Mascara

I also used the Go Big or Gome Home mascara in the first winged eyeliner look and this is how it looks close up. The left picture is my eye with only eyeliner and no mascara yet. The right picture is me wearing the eyeliner and the mascara.

I was pleasantly surprised by how good the mascara looked! It was very easy to apply and as you can tell it added lots of length to my lashes. The applicator/brush is very nice too, and I’m very picky when it comes to a mascara applicator. The mascara stayed on all day just like the eyeliner!

I knew I liked the eyeliner but to be honest, I was skeptical about the mascara. I’m pretty picky when it comes to mascara formulas and applicators so not many mascaras pass my test. This one is actually a mascara I see myself reaching for. I really liked the way it looked and the length it gave my lashes so I’m definitely going to use this way more often! The eyeliner is and always will be my holy grail.

The products retail at the KVD Vegan Beauty website as well as Sephora

Another thing I really like about the products is that they’re both 100% vegan and cruelty-free.

Have you ever tried one of these products? Or would you love to try one of them? I would love to know so please drop a comment below!

Kat’s eyeliner is the best, it’s honestly one of my Holy Grails! I love these looks, you look so beautiful! Congrats on being an affiliate with KvD, you deserve it! I have not yet tried their mascara but I keep hearing good things about it, so I’m definitely going to try it. Is it any similar to Better Than Sex? Because that’s the one I’m addicted too! xx

Thank you so much for your super sweet comment, I really appreciate it! I really love the Better Than Sex mascara as well and I think it’s pretty similar! The Better Than Sex mascara is a little drier than the KVD one, which I actually like about the KVD mascara. It applies a bit quicker/easier but gives me similar volumizing and length effects. 🙂

My eyes tear a lot, so that’s why I love better than sex waterproof mascara so much! The only reason I haven’t tried Kat’s one yet is because I don’t think its waterproof and I know that no matter how lovely it is, it will probably smudge with my teary eyes. xo

So many great tips! I love the KVD liner, I know they’ve changed their name but I’ll always remember them as KVD! I really want the liner in the brown shade, as it looks really pretty too xo

Same here, I still have to get used to the new name a bit. I really want the brown one as well!!

KvD Trooper liner was my HG for years, too! So I was devasted when I wasn’t purchasing from them for a period. Have you tried the Fenty Flyliner?? It’s very comparable (which makes sense) since Kendo manufactures both!

I’m loving that intense cat liner look!

I really connect with your statement of not being able to live without eyeliner and mascara since age 12! My best friend revealed to me in college that she was somewhat afraid of my eyeliner in high school. Yikes! I had no idea what I was doing back then, but now I cannot skip the eyeliner. I *always* do a wing. I refuse to try anything else. I guess you could say a wing is my signature. I won’t say that I’m perfect or a pro, but I think I’ve perfected it for myself. I love the KVD trooper liner! I live on the deluxe samples of those, so good! Your eyeliner looks great in this post, Simone.

BTW loving your new blog design! I want that next post popup that you got going on in the right corner. I have not yet found anything like it for Elementor Pro 🙁

Since quarantine, I have only been doing my liner and curling my lashes everyday. I have been so into winged eyeliner lately that I just had to read this post lol! You are really good at it, Simome. I love how your look turned out, especially the intense cat eye look.

Thank you for sharing your tips. I definitely agree that it’s important to keep your eye shape in mind. I never used to do this before lol!
