This could be about school, work, blog, relationships etc. Sometimes you just feel like giving up, you can’t find the motivation to keep going and want to be done with it. The moment I’m writing this, I really feel like this. It inspired me to write about it since this happens to me often but I always find a way to get myself motivated again. I thought I would share my thoughts and tips.
Right now, I’m busy with graduating my Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management (I have to write my thesis about a company and providing them with advice), I’m working at least 1 day in the week (more if I’m able to), I’m blogging and balancing a social life. And to be honest, it’s sometimes too much. Especially when things don’t go as planned, for example; graduating is hard and it takes so much time, more than I thought. Moments like that I feel like giving up, I’m not motivated and I just want to sleep lol.
Thankfully, I can motivate myself pretty quickly and easily. Even though I’m not always feeling it haha. Most of the time I first need to make myself feel less frustrated about everything. Things that help me get less frustrated are very diverse and I would like to share them:
- Blog about it
- Talk about it
- Write my thoughts down
- Go on a walk
- Log off for a while (no internet, no phone)
- Take a shower
- Listen to music
Ofcourse, there a way more ways to make yourself feel less frustrated and my ways doesn’t have to work for you. The most important thing to do is accepting the fact that you’re feeling frustrated and done with everything, but then try and make yourself feel comfortable again.
One of my bad habits in periods or days like this, is that I tend to buy more makeup to make myself feel happy even though that works for like 3 seconds. There’s nothing wrong with buying things to cheer yourself up, but don’t overspend like me haha.
The moment I feel a little bit better, I’m writing the things I want or need to do down. Sometimes I’m making a planning for the week, but sometimes I only make a list for the day. Don’t make a huuuuge to do list because that will make you unmotivated again since most of the time you can’t finish it.
I also like to watch Youtube videos about cleaning and/or organizing. This inspires me to do the same. Most of the times, I start cleaning my room and after everything is organized and clean I feel way more motivated.
One thing to keep in mind: if you’re really not feeling it and just can’t motivate yourself, please listen to your body. It’s probably giving you a signal to relax a little more. And that’s totally fine. Your (mental) health is super important and you have to make sure you take good care of yourself.

I’ve been looking around for more tips to motivate yourself and here are some I found:
- Remind yourself why you want to do something
- Break down your work into smaller chunks
- Make your activities fun
- Promise yourself a reward when you get something done
- Give yourself occasional breaks to avoid burnout
- Tell yourself that you can accomplish anything
- Create a list of tasks for yourself
- Join a working group that focuses on the same activity
- Create a routine for yourself
- Reduce the daily distractions
- Get accountability from the people in your life
- Play music that gives you energy
- Be kind to yourself when you stumble
Things that really work for me are creating a list of tasks, as I already said before. But also getting accountability from my friends. When we’re not feeling motivated we try to motivate each other by sharing our to do’s and we check in on each other multiiple times during the day. This makes me feel so much more motivated!
Don’t ignore to take breaks, these are really important if you want to stay motivated and productive!
