Overall I like the Huda Beauty Mercury Retrograde palette. The formula is great because of the buttery metallics and pigmented mattes. You will notice some kickback in the pan, and just two shades require more blending. Other than that, I have no complaints!

In today’s post, I’m putting the Huda Beauty Mercury Retrograde eyeshadow palette to the test. Keep reading for my in-depth review, including swatches.

Huda Beauty Mercury Retrograde Palette Review

My first impression of the Huda Mercury Retrograde Palette was a little messy since it seems like the shades in the palette are over the place and not really cohesive. However, the longer I watched it, the most I could see this palette has little duos that match well together, and if you’re more daring, there are lots of color combinations to make.

Overall, I think this palette is fun and different from a neutral palette, but I personally am not going to use all shades that often. Like Haze and Libra are stunning but not something I would wear much, if at all. If you’re like me and more into a neutral-toned palette, check out Huda Beauty New Nude Palette or Naughty Nude Palette. I’m sure you’ll feel more comfortable with these!

Pigmentation

The overall pigmentation of the Mercury Retrograde Palette is good and provides enough pigment in just one swipe. However, the only shades that disappointed me are Ultraviolet and Mercury since they weren’t as pigmented and metallic as I expected them to be. However, I still think the colors are pretty. Especially the swift in Mercury is very beautiful.

Vortex and Hot Mess were the only shades that swatched quite patchy, but I haven’t noticed much of this when I applied the shade to my eyes. The shades require a little more blending effort.

Formula

The Huda Beauty Mercury Retrograde palette swatched very easily and pigmented, just as I expected. The metallics are very buttery, so they’re pigmented in one swipe. The mattes are slightly powdery and give some kickback in the pan but have quite some pigment in one swipe too. If you tap off your brush, you won’t notice any fallout on the face.

The palette overall blends very well and easily, except for the two shades mentioned above. It’s, in my opinion, a beginner-friendly palette that’s easy to work with and will definitely help with creating colorful looks.

Application

The application went smoothly in general, only two shades were slightly patchy and required extra blending, and I did notice kickback in the pan with the matte shades specifically, but if you tap off your brush or wet your brush beforehand, you won’t notice fallout on the face.

It’s not the easiest application in the entire world, and some palettes have a smoother application, but it is definitely not the worst ever, so overall, I’m satisfied.

Longevity

The shadows stayed on all day without any creasing. I didn’t notice any fallout during the day or smudged shadows.

Final Verdict

Overall I really like the Huda Beauty Mercury Retrograde Palette. The formula is great because of the buttery metallics and pigmented mattes. You will notice some kickback in the pan, and just two shades require a bit more blending. Other than that, I have no complaints!

  1. At first I loved this palette but after a while I got a bit frustrated with it, the shimmers take too much layering and the mattes change color once you put them on the eyes. They become too pastelly for my taste, I know it’s a pastel palette but when I go for Off Balance (for example) I want a more muted shade instead I get a bright pink. The looks never turn out how I envisioned them so it’s frustrating and way too expensive because of that

    1. I thought I experienced the color change on my eyes too but I thought I was just crazy lol, good to know you have this too. It requires a bit of adjusting when applying them to the eyes when it comes to envisioning the look, which shouldn’t be the case.

  2. Ah I love this palette, too. I haven’t experienced any of the color shift issues yet, but maybe I need to test this out more to see if that occurs. Also, I feel like my love of Huda Beauty kinda snuck up on me too lol. Like I loved the Smokey Obsessions Palette from her, but then the more I tried the more I was impressed. Now Huda is one of my fave brands!

  3. This is a palette that I have been seeing A LOT over the past few months. I need to admit that the packaging and the shadow colors are really pretty! The reason I have not yet purchased it is that I’m not sure how much use I would get out of it. These are not colors that I typically gravitate towards. $67 on something that might collect dust is not justifiable to me. If I found this palette at half the price or less at a store like TJMaxx or Marshalls, then I would probably give it a try. That way, if I decide to donate it later, I won’t feel so bad about it haha.

  4. Loved reading your review. Also ohhhh, I love pretty looking palettes. Would love to add this one to my collection as it features tons of colours I love to use, but the price, ouch. I guess I will just look at the photographs and dream. 🙂

  5. I love wearing pastel colors, but I never tried them out in terms of makeup! The colors are beautiful although I don’t know how well I would be able to use them.

  6. Such a good review! The colors are so pretty- perfect for spring! I need to get my hands on one of Huda’s palettes soon!

  7. Your swatches are divine. They make me so happy because they’re so neat and pretty lol. I really like this palette and like you, I love the formula of the Huda Beauty eyeshadows. The New Nude Palette is one of my favourite palettes of all time! I only didn’t get this palette as I think I have all of these shades already (with the exception of Mercury). It looks gorgeous though and I bet you can create some beautiful looks with it
