Is the Bali Body Instant Tan the new insider trick to a flawless and bronzed self tan within 60 seconds, or is this our orange self tan nightmare?

Have you ever experienced a self tan mistake or a bad self tan in general? If you do, you know the fear of turning into a completely orange carrot. That’s not a really cute look, if I’m being honest. So I took one for the team and tried out this new Bali Body Instant Tan self-tanner so that when it goes wrong, you don’t have to go through the ugly phase, and when it goes right, you can straight up run to the store to get it. Let’s find out which one it is!

Bali Body Instant Tan
I do like the idea of this product, and I love a body product that works like a foundation, but sadly this wasn’t the perfect product for me. And I wouldn’t recommend this to self tan beginners either. But I don’t think it’s a lousy product in general. It’s transfer-proof, blurring, and evens the skin tone.

My favorite self tanning brand launched a new product TODAY, and I was asked to try it as one of the first people! I’m talking about the Bali Body Instant Tan, a lightweight aerated spray that is supposed to give a bronzed, blurring effect. It’s basically a self tan and a foundation for your body and face, all in one!

In this post, I’ll be sharing all the details about the Bali Body Instant Tan, such as the formula, how it applies, how it looks, including a before & after, and share the things I liked and disliked. So for my detailed thoughts, keep reading the full review below.

What Is The Bali Body Instant Tan

Bali Body Instant Tan

A skin-perfecting instant tanning spray that achieves bronzed, smooth and flawless skin. This lightweight aerated spray evens skin tone, blurs blemishes, and covers imperfections, leaving the skin looking tanned and airbrushed in seconds. Our innovative aerosol formula is fast drying to ensure minimal transfer and washes off completely with water and soap. Available in 2 shades so you can choose your desired level of bronze. The two shades are:

  • Light-Medium
  • Medium-Dark

How To Apply

Shake well before use, hold the can 15cm/6inches away from the skin, and spray directly onto the desired area. Blend into the skin in long, sweeping motions using the Bali Body Body Blending Brush or any other brush similar to that one for the best results. I personally used the Huda Beauty N.Y.M.P.H Body Blur & Glow Brush. I’ve also tried the Bali Body Tanning Mitt.

Things To Note

The Bali Body Instant Tan is cruelty-free, vegan, and free from parabens and sulfates.

Where To Buy

The Bali Body Instant Tan retails for $24.95 and is available at the Bali Body website balibodyco.com.

Bali Body Instant Tan Review

I don’t want to be overly dramatic but I’m pretty sure my heart stopped when I first sprayed the Bali Body Instant Tan on my leg and it looked like the left photo below. I literally thought I had to go through life as a carrot. It looked like the stuff I used to put in my hair on Kingsday (or actually Queensday, we still had a Queen when I was a kid) to celebrate the birthday of the King/Queen, and we all dressed up in orange clothes, painted red/white/blue flags on our faces and sprayed our hair with temporarily orange paint as a kid.

At least I had a couple of seconds taking me back to nice memories until I realized I had a problem and started blending like crazy in hopes for it to blend into a less orange, pretty-looking tan. The results are in the right photo below, where I did just one leg with the Instant Tan, and the other leg is my natural white self lol.

I felt like it applied pretty blotchy as well. You have to work really quickly because it dries down super quickly. I have a love-hate relationship with this: I love when a product dries down quickly but I hate it when I have to work SO quick because it’s almost dried down once it gets out of the bottle. It makes it hard to correct any mistakes I’ve made, and I think that’s what makes it look blotchy. I didn’t have enough time to make sure I applied the product evenly.

I have used the Instant Tan with a brush, as recommended by Bali Body, and with their Self Tanning mitt. Using the mitt made it look less blotchy though! The color was still too orange for my preferences.

I would also recommend putting a towel on the floor or applying the spray in the shower, or any other place that’s okay to get a bit dirty, because it can be a dirty process. I’m that person that sprays half of the product besides her leg so this is probably my problem but just to be sure, I’m giving you this tip.

After seeing the results, I wanted to wash the product off but I noticed this wasn’t as easy as I thought. The bottle stated “wash off,” so I assumed this would wash away immediately. That’s not the case, it already was dry and didn’t come off or transfer. This is actually a good thing (if you haven’t ruined your tan as I did) because that means it’s true that it’s touch dry and non-transferable within 30 seconds.

Even though my experience with the color and application wasn’t that positive, I can see this product having a blurring effect and evens out my skin. If you see the right photo above, you can see some redness on my left leg which isn’t visible on my right leg anymore.

The color doesn’t match my skin tone, but I think it will look great on people with a warm undertone or with just a tad darker/less pale skin than I have. I really hope Bali Body will expand the range, not only with a lighter shade but also with a darker shade for people with a dark skin tone. They might not need this for an actual self tanning product, but it would be nice for them to have a blurring type of body foundation as well.

I also think it would look less blotchy if I applied the Instant Tan on top of another Bali Body Self Tanning product so that I would have an even base and the right color to start off with. But this product should work without a self tan too so that’s a little disappointing.

Final Verdict

I do like the idea of this product, and I love a body product that works like a foundation, but sadly this wasn’t the perfect product for me. And I wouldn’t recommend this to self tan beginners either. But I don’t think it’s a bad product in general. It’s transfer-proof, blurring, and evens the skin tone.

Does The Bali Body Instant Tan give an instant tan? Definitely! As you can tell, my right leg looks way more bronzed than my left leg. Do I like this product as much as I love the Bali Body Self Tanning Mousse? Sadly, not. I think this tan is too orange for my preferences, probably because I’m so pale. I think this would look better on someone that has a little darker complexion than I have.
