Since a lot of people think that Kylie Cosmetics and Colourpop are basically the same brand but saying Kylie is overpriced, I wanted to put that to the test. When I saw Colourpop launching a Lip Bundle (a liquid lipstick with lip liner), I immediately thought of the Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kits. I’ll be swatching them, wearing them, and testing them to let you know if the formula is the same. In today’s Beauty Battle: Kylie Cosmetics vs Colourpop!

Colourpop Lip Bundles

The Lip Bundles I’ve bought from Colourpop are from the Zoella collaboration and are called ‘What Happens At Brunch’ and ‘My Day Ones.’

  • What Happens At Brunch includes ‘@ Me’ Ultra Matte Lip and ‘Oh Snap’ Lippie Pencil.
  • My Day Ones includes ‘Little One’ Ultra Matte Lip with ‘Little One’ Lippie Pencil.

Both the bundles retail for $13 each.

Since this collection isn’t available anymore, check out the Colourpop Liquid Lipsticks.

Moreover, I went through my Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kit collection to find two very similar shades to compare the Colourpop Lip Bundles too. I ended up picking out ‘Koko K’ and ‘Candy K,’ two very popular Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kits and both are one of my favorites as well.

  • Koko K Lip Kit includes a matte liquid lipstick and a matching lip liner.
  • Candy K Lip Kit includes a matte liquid lipstick and a matching lip liner.

Both the Lip Kits retail for $29 each.

Kylie Cosmetics vs Colourpop

I’ll be showing the Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kits, besides their Colourpop dupes, to show you how similar they are. Also, I felt like it would help to see the differences between the brands.

Koko K vs What Happens At Brunch

I know the Kylie one says ‘Gloss’ but I think it’s misprinted on the bottle since it actually is a matte liquid lipstick.

One of the things I noticed is that the Kylie Cosmetics lip pencil is slightly creamier than the Colourpop one, and the Kylie Cosmetics liquid lipstick dried down almost immediately while the Colourpop liquid lipstick took its time to dry.

Moreover, as you can tell by the swatch, the Colourpop liquid lipstick swatched a bit more patchy and less pigmented than the Kylie Cosmetics liquid lipstick.

Besides that, the Colourpop liquid lipstick started to crumble earlier than the Kylie Cosmetics liquid lipstick. I wore the Colourpop liquid lipstick for 3.5 hours without crumbling and the Kylie Cosmetics liquid lipstick lasted me 4.5/5 hours.

However, I do think that the Colourpop liquid lipstick and pencil are worth their money. They’re more affordable than the Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kits, you’ll still get a good quality liquid lipstick and lip pencil, and it’s still pretty long-lasting.

Candy K vs My Day Ones

I felt like the My Day Ones Lip Bundle performed better than the What Happens At Brunch Lip Bundle. It dried down a bit quicker, but not as quickly as the Kylie Cosmetics one, and looks more pigmented.

However, I still think Little One liquid lipstick is slightly patchy, and Candy K isn’t at all. As well as the other comparisons, the Colourpop liquid lipstick started to crumble earlier than the Kylie Cosmetics liquid lipstick. I wore the Colourpop liquid lipstick for 3.5 hours without crumbling and the Kylie Cosmetics liquid lipstick lasted me 4.5/5 hours.

Again, I do think that the Colourpop liquid lipstick and pencil are worth their money. They’re more affordable than the Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kits, you’ll still get a good quality liquid lipstick and lip pencil, and it’s still pretty long-lasting. I prefer Little One over @ Me.

Final Thoughts

Both Kylie Cosmetics and Colourpop are one of my favorite brands and I don’t want to bash any brand at all. I just wanted to see myself if there’s a difference between Kylie Cosmetics and Colourpop, or not.

After testing out myself, I definitely see a difference. Even though you pay more for the Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kits, they’re very pigmented, high quality, not patchy at all, dry down very quickly, and are very long-lasting. Also, the lip liner is very creamy and will always be my favorite ones to use.

However, this doesn’t mean that the Colourpop liquid lipsticks and lip pencils are bad. They’re not at all! If you can’t afford or don’t want to pay $29 for a Lip Kit, the Colourpop products are a very good alternative. Moreover, you can get 2 lipsticks and 2 lip pencils for the same amount of money as 1 Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kit (1 liquid lipstick and 1 pencil). Not a bad deal at all right?

Hope to see you next time loves,

xoxo Simone

  1. I agree that the Kylie pencils are def way creamier than the CP ones (which is what I tend to prefer). My go-to shade from Kylie is Dolce K 🙂
