This new MAC lipstick formula made me very curious. Would it be very different than their normal formulas? Would it be drying? Would it be looking prettier? I had many questions and that’s why I bought one shade to test it out!
Let’s start off with the explanation MAC gives about their new formula on their website:
Matte, totally reinvented. Delivering a romantic blur of soft-focus colour, this weightless moisture-matte lipstick was developed to replicate a backstage technique: blending out edges of matte lipstick for a hazy effect. Its groundbreaking formula contains moisture-coated powder pigments that condition and hydrate lips. The result is the zero-shine look of a matte lipstick with the cushiony, lightweight feel of a balm. Fall for this all-new soft-touch, misty matte kiss of colour.
The first thing I thought was that the formula sounds similar to the Colourpop Matte Lux Lipsticks. I enjoy the formula of the Lux lipsticks so this is getting me excited. The formula will give you a nice matte look without drying your lips. I love soft-focus color so I really hope they keep this promise.
The carton packaging looks exactly the same as the other carton packaging from MAC lipsticks. Nothing new, nothing special. It has the name on the top and information on the back.
I don’t know if you can tell by the picture, but the actual packaging is slightly different than their normal packaging. This packaging is matte and kinda feels velvety. The normal packaging is shinier. I like that they’ve changed the tube packaging for this lipstick. It’s easier to see the difference between formulas. Moreover, I do feel like this looks more luxurious.
MAC Lipstick in the shade Sultriness
I bought the shade Sultriness because this shade looked most exciting to me. It’s a true baby blue pink. I like the smell but I can imagine that not everyone would like it. The lipstick even has a sugar taste too it. In my opinion, this is a little bit too much. I thought I had pure sugar on my lips.
It’s supposed to be sheerer but it’s very pigmented on my lips. It’s lightweight, not making my lips feel dry and I didn’t have any problems with applying it. I thought it could be dry but that isn’t the case.
Here’s Sultriness on my arm. As you can see, it’s very pigmented, it’s buildable but not really sheer in my opinion and it’s matte but doesnt feel drying at all.
Do I think it’s more special than a normal (matte) MAC lipstick? No, I don’t think it’s very special. Do I like it? I do! The formula is really nice except the taste.
But I have to admit that I think I would grab a matte MAC lipstick before I would pick this one. However, I’m happy I bought and tried it.
The lipstick is 3 g / 0.1 oz and retails for $19.
