Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer
I genuinely have nothing bad to say about this Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer other than that it feels a bit tacky after it dried down, and due to the soft, shiny finish, it may not be a perfect match for a combination and oily skin types. Other than that, this primer is so worth it! It keeps your makeup in place all day, feels comfortable and hydrating, and your makeup looks perfect after hours of wearing it.

Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer Review

Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer

The Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer has a gel-like, almost watery, translucent texture (even though it looks green in the bottle), so it’ll suit every skin tone. Due to the consistency, it applies very easily, evenly, and spreads quickly. It almost feels like a lightweight moisturizer or serum. I prefer to use a brush over the application with my hands; however, both methods work well.

After application, you must give the Hydro Grip Primer a minute to dry before applying anything on top.

Formula

Even though the formula is very comfortable, it’ll feel a bit sticky/tacky after it dries down. This is probably also why the primer does a great job, as it seems like this sticky feeling helps with the gripping onto the makeup products.

Applying products on top is easy, as this primer never messed with my base products application. Due to its hydrating properties, this primer gives a beautiful soft glow even after applying your foundation on top. This primer doesn’t work for you if you’re more into a matte finish.

Longevity

Due to this primer’s hydrating and soft-shiny finish, I was scared that it wouldn’t be able to keep my makeup in place all day. I was even scared that I might end up with oily-looking skin. Thankfully, none of this happened. My makeup stayed in place perfectly all day long and didn’t even look a tiny bit oily at the end of a full face of makeup day.

Performance

It honestly seems like the Milk Hydro Grip Primer keeps your makeup in place as if its life depends on it. It’s one of the best primers that I’ve ever tried. Not only is it performing well, but it’s also very comfortable, and after your put on your makeup, you won’t feel anything of the sticky finish.

The primer is quite pricey, but I think it is worth the money! For people with dry skin, this primer is a necessity. It delivers all-day wear makeup that doesn’t look dry or oily, just a soft shine, and doesn’t budge.

Alternatives

  • Too Faced Matte Skin Perfecting Primer: Compared to Hydro Grip, this primer is a little thicker in consistency and is less watery. The Too Faced primer also has a matte finish, so this one is perfect for people that don’t want the soft-shine Hydro Grip gives you.
  • LYS Beauty Secure Skin Gripping Serum Primer: The LYS Primer is similar in texture to Hydro Grip. It also has a gel-like, watery texture that you don’t need much of. I like this primer a lot, but I would say that Hydro Grip lasts all day, whereas the LYS one lasts up to 8-9 hours. Either way, it does make a great affordable alternative!

Final Verdict

I genuinely have nothing bad to say about this Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer other than that it feels a bit tacky after it dried down, and due to the soft, shiny finish, it may not be a perfect match for a combination and oily skin types. Other than that, this primer is so worth it! It keeps your makeup in place all day, feels comfortable and hydrating, and your makeup looks perfect after hours of wearing it.

FAQ

Hydro Grip Primer is suitable for sensitive skin. However, it’s best to do a patch test on your arm to ensure it works with your skin before applying it to your face.

You can wear this hydrating primer under any type of face makeup or alone as a skincare step for hydration and a glassy glow. Make sure you give the formula one minute to activate before layering makeup on top.

  1. I’m so curious about this – I didn’t have the best experience with the cooling stick, but I do love the Milk Makeup makeup products and I really want to try the new face wash and cream!!

  2. I’ve always been interested in Milk Makeup! I love how you mention it has multiple uses and even though your skin is oily, you still gave it a try! I also have oily skin (mine sounds oilier than yours, its my nose and forehead that are the worst!) but it still gives me some hope if I end up trying this!
Lovely review, thanks for sharing x

    1. Milk Makeup is amazing, I love their skincare for sure! If you’re looking for something hydrating, this’ll work even with oily skin. As I said, you can play around with how much you apply or how often you apply to make sure it won’t be too oily for your skin 🙂

  3. I love the sound of this and haven’t really used any Milk products before. I love that it comes in a roll on format too, so much better for making sure you use every bit
