10Expert Score
Natasha Denona Retro Palette
The formula is just top-notch, and I don’t own many brands that are similar in quality. And I own a lot of eyeshadow palettes from a lot of brands… lol. I can’t think of anything bad about this palette; it’s just too good. Only smooth, buttery, pigmented, and easy to work with shadows, maybe some slight kickback in the pan but no fallout on the face, and overall just fantastic quality and gorgeous shades.

Natasha Denona Retro Palette Review

The Natasha Denona Retro Palette has gorgeous pink, mauve, and burgundy tones and has different finishes but always the same, high-quality formula. I absolutely love the shade range and the combination of warmer tones and even some cooler tones.

The palette has enough lighter and darker shades to create depth; the metallics can make a daily look go into a gorgeous party look or add some glitter fun with the toppers. This palette gives so much variety, and you’ll be able to create quite a few different looks with this beauty!

Pigmentation

You will get pigment right from the get-go, which is what I love about the Natasha Denona formulas. Some of the shades, Glitz and Psychedelic, are supposed to be toppers and thus making them less pigmented and more glittery. In my opinion, this isn’t a bad thing unless you hate glitters. However, it’s just two shades so it wouldn’t really be a big reason to pass on the palette.

Formula

The Natasha Denona Retro Palette is one of the market’s best burgundy and pinkish-toned palettes. The color story might not be unique compared to other palettes available (even though it’s gorgeous), but the quality is. These shadows are so buttery, smooth, and easy to work with!

All the shades in this palette blend like a dream, are buildable, and are not patchy. The metallics work well with the mattes; blending them or placing the metallic on the matte shadow doesn’t cause any problems.

Application

The matte shadows feel soft and smooth, pigmented, and not powdery or patchy. You may notice some slight kickback in the pan but no fallout on the face, so it isn’t bothering me. They’re easy to work with and blend themselves, thus making this palette very beginner-friendly.

The metallics are like butter and apply stunningly on the lids with a brush or finger. For the most foiled look, use your finger or wet your brush. Using a brush makes the metallics look softer, but they’re still buildable to a more popping finish, and would be day-look-appropriate.

Longevity

I never once had a problem with the longevity of any of the Natasha Denona palettes, and the Retro Palette is no exception. Even though the formulas are very soft and creamy to the touch, they stay on all day without any creasing.

Alternatives

  • Dose of Colors Marvelous Mauves Eyeshadow Palette: Even though the Marvelous Mauves Palette is entirely matte, I still wanted to share this as it would make a great alternative if you’re primarily into just matte shades. This eyeshadow palette only contains five shades, which is less overwhelming for some.
  • Colourpop Making Mauves Eyeshadow Palette: An affordable alternative for Retro is the Colourpop Making Mauves Palette which is a mix of warmer and cooler tones of mauve. It also includes stunning metallics that are very pigmented.
  • Viseart Etendu Cashmerie Eyeshadow Palette: Etendu could be Retro’s cooler-toned sister and includes some gorgeous shades, some quite similar to shades in the Retro Palette, with high-quality and pigmented formulas. Viseart is truly worth checking out!

Final Verdict

The formula is just top-notch, and I don’t own many brands that are similar in quality. And I own a lot of eyeshadow palettes from a lot of brands… lol. I can’t think of anything bad about this palette; it’s just too good. Only smooth, buttery, pigmented, and easy to work with shadows, maybe some slight kickback in the pan but no fallout on the face, and overall just fantastic quality and gorgeous shades.

I think I’ll never get enough of this palette. I’m pretty sure that if you have ever or once are going to try the Natasha Denona palettes, you’ll understand what I’m talking about.
