When I heard of the Summer Fridays Lip Balm, I knew I had to try it. I’ve been loving the ones with the old packaging but as I didn’t enjoy the packaging itself, I was delighted to hear that they were going to improve the packaging and not change the formula. When I saw the cute lip balm set for the Holidays, with the new packaging, I quickly grabbed them.

Cons
  • Not cheap for a lip balm

The formula of the Summer Fridays lip balms is supposedly the same, only the packaging has been changed, so there shouldn’t be much difference. However, I did see some comments on the website that people thought the formula did change.

So as a lover of the ‘old packaging formula,’ I had to compare them to the ‘new packaging formula’ and share with you today if I notice a difference and just my thoughts on these lip balms in general. If you’re interested, then keep on reading to find out more!

What Is The Summer Fridays Lip Balm

Summer Fridays was founded by Marianna Hewitt and Lauren Ireland, both beauty influencers; after years of testing products, they were still desiring a line of products that ticked all the boxes: easy-to-use, clean ingredients, immediately satisfying, and so pretty you’d want them on display.

The brand explains that “Summer Fridays create a moment for you to dream and be transported to a feeling of carefree, sunny days. Busy, complicated lives (hello, NYC-LAX red eye) need simple solutions that can adapt to whatever you’re doing and wherever you’re going so that you can still celebrate the pleasure of beauty with good-for-you ingredients and covetable results.”

Summer Fridays Lip Balms

During the Holidays, Summer Fridays came out with a limited-edition Lip Balm set with two limited edition lip balm versions. Vanilla (the original one), Vanilla Beige, and Brown Sugar. Even though the set isn’t available anymore, all the shades made their comeback. They’re available separately and are a permanent part of the Summer Fridays product lineup.

The Summer Fridays Lip Balm is a silky, 100% vegan lip balm that hydrates and soothes parched lips in seconds. Butter up on the go for instant moisture and shine, or at bedtime for a nourishing overnight mask. Vanilla Beige and Brown Sugar leave a hint of color, whereas Vanilla is transparent.

How To Use

Use when your lips need extra hydration throughout the day or as an overnight lip mask.

Key Ingredients

  • Shea & Murumuru Seed Butters: Packed with an ultra-hydrating seed butter, these natural moisturizers soothe, heal and condition parched lips (bye-bye, dry.)
  • Vegan Waxes: Our unique blend of vegan waxes will soften and boost shine all day with a smooth, never-greasy texture that feels heaven-sent.
  • Natural Vanilla Flavor: Its sweet-yet-subtle hint of vanilla will take your senses on a mini getaway. It smells so dreamy that you’ll want to reapply 24/7.

Things To Note

Summer Fridays is a cruelty-free, 100% vegan brand that is also paraben-free, and sulfate-free, and comes in recyclable packaging. Summer Fridays have a recycling program where you get a free gift if you collect & send back 5 empty products to be recycled.

On top of that, the Summer Fridays Lip Balm comes in their new Tree-Free™ Paper box. Their new 100% Tree-Free™ paper is made from bagasse, a waste by-product of sugar and a rapidly renewable resource. Tree-Free™ paper is compostable, BPA-free, chlorine and dye-free, and USDA BioPreferred. The unit carton and liner are both fully recyclable.

Where To Buy

Summer Fridays is available for purchase at select retailers and on summerfridays.com. Authorized retailers include Sephora, Cult Beauty, and Selfridges.

Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm Review

Summer Fridays Lip Balms

Let’s start with the packaging because 1) I love the color and sleek, neutral-toned vibes of these lip balms and 2) I absolutely love the new applicator! Before the change of packaging, you had to squeeze the product on your finger, but now you can easily apply it directly to your lips. I think they’ve really improved on this part, go Summer Fridays!

Now onto the mystery of the formula. Is it true that they didn’t change the formula? I believe it is true. But I think why I understand why people think that the formula has changed. The difference I felt had to do with the amount I applied.

So with the ‘old packaging,’ it was a bit harder to get the right amount out of the tube, and most of the time, I easily used too much, which caused a thick layer quickly. I didn’t mind this, as a thick layer is lovely on the lips. However, I feel like the ‘new applicator’ helps with not wasting too much product, so you’ll get a thinner layer, and this can feel different. But the formula is still as hydrating, nourishing, and incredible as it used to be. Try applying a thicker layer, and you’ll notice the formula is still the same.

I like that I have more control over the product that comes out. The lip balms aren’t cheap, so I can be slightly more careful with how much I apply. Plus, if I want a thick layer, I can still get it, so I feel I have the best of both worlds now.

Lastly, about the formula in general. I’m an actual lip balm addict, and I will NEVER go to bed without applying one. I’ve tried a lot of lip balms, and I think this Summer Fridays Lip Balm is one of the best out there. I never wake up with dry lips (yes, some lip balms used to cause dry lips, ugh); my lips always feel hydrated, soft, and plump. If I feel dry lips coming through in the winter, I just apply the Summer Fridays balm a couple of times during the day, and the next day that feeling is gone. I’m obsessed with this lip balm!

The Summer Fridays Lip Balms have a soft vanilla scent, but it’s not overwhelming or too much at all. It’s a very pleasant, soft smell of vanilla, which I love too!

Final Verdict

As someone who truly loved the Overtime Mask and the Jetlag Mask, I’m happy to add these Lip Balms to my line-up of loves. I genuinely think these lip balms are some of the best. I love how hydrating they are, how amazing they feel on the lips, and how they always prevent me from parched lips. The scent is fantastic, just like the new packaging. I couldn’t recommend these lip balms more. Try them, and you’ll understand why they’re so good!
