I have been wanting to participate in a Project Pan challenge for a while now and I’m finally setting goals in today’s blog post. It’s actually getting real now, I’m going to try my past to pan as many products as I can!
Project Pan is not exactly new – it’s been around since 2016. Over the past few years, we could see that it really can help people who struggle with makeup hoarding.
If you are unfamiliar with the term Project Pan, it’s essentially a commitment to finishing an entire set of beauty products within a specific time frame. It helps to combat the mentality of mass consumerism by encouraging people to “shop their stash” of already purchased products.
The “Pan” specifically refers to hitting the shiny metal bottom of powdered makeup products.“Panning” is an active endeavor to finish a product. The product is considered “panned” once you can see the bottom of it. This also refers to products that don’t have a visible pan such as liquid foundation, tubes or bottles of skincare.
The conclusion is that Project Pan is a way to stay mindful and use what you have instead of spending money on more products that will end up collecting dust.
As you all know by now, I’m definitely makeup hoarding. Beauty is my passion and hobby so I’m pretty sure I’ll always have too many products but I don’t want them to only catch dust. I want to actively use them and eventually pan them.
Right now, I’m circulating so much which makes it impossible to actually pan a product. So I’ll be focusing on a couple of products for the upcoming months.
The Products I want to use in my Project Pan
The products I want to focus on in the upcoming 3 months are the following:
- Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray
- Anastasia Beverly Hills Dewy Set Setting Spray
- Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara
- NARS Climax Mascara
- Urban Decay Stay Naked Foundation
- CoverFX Primer
- Marc Jacobs Beauty Bronzer
- Kylie Cosmetics Candy K Lip Kit
- Kylie Cosmetics High Gloss in My Moon & Stars
- Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette
Since this is my first time doing a Project Pan, I’m not sure if this is the right amount of products to focus on and if I’m able to actually pan something in 3 months but this is a learning process. In 3 months I’ll reflect on if I was able to pan something and I can change my goals/rules if it doesn’t work out.
Besides this Project Pan, I also want to start with a low buy. I have been doing a couple of No Buy Months before but since this doesn’t really work for me, I want to set up rules for my own low buy.
I’ll be writing a blog post about this too so you can join my journey by reading or even participating if you want! My inspiration for my low buy is The Newbury Girl, who has been writing about this for a while now. Please check her out if you’re interested in reading about low/no buys.
What are your thoughts on a low/no-buy? Did you try one yourself? I’d love to know so please leave a comment below.
