Trying to sell makeup for the first time | How did it go?

toFor 2 years I’ve been building a pretty huge makeup collection and I never thought I would reach this point, but certain products I just never use. Since I think it’s a shame to let it expire in my drawer and to eventually throw it away. So I thought, why not try to sell it? I never did this before and I didn’t know if people would actually buy makeup online so it has been a very fun adventure! Anyway, I’m going to share my thoughts with you today!

First of all, I have to start by saying that I’m selling products I almost haven’t used. I mean, I wouldn’t buy makeup either that’s looking gross and very used either so I’m definitely not doing that. There are some products in my collection that I have been using like 1 or 2 times and never reached for again. Moreover, I thought it would be a good idea to try and sell products that don’t fit my skin tone. So I gathered some products and put them on United Wardrobe. This is an app where you can sell clothes, make-up, jewelry, etc. and it’s a very safe way to sell or buy from. I’m not sponsored or paid by them, I just really like the app! This app is available for Dutch, French, German and UK people. Feel free to check out my items, I’m shipping international as well!

So the products I gathered are Kylie Cosmetics The Royal Peach Palette, Hazel & Libra Lip Kit and Queen highlighter, Fenty Beauty Foundation, Colourpop concealer, Colourpop eyeshadow palette, NYX lipsticks, and Colourpop lipstick. I made sure everything was looking good and ready for a new owner. I made some pictures and then it was time to sell them.

After a while, I decided to start cleaning out my wardrobe and sell some of these items as well. I’m going to sort out more of my clothes and I will upload new items soon.

At this point, I’ve sold the Kylie Cosmetics Royal Peach Palette and Hazel Lip Kit, Fenty Beauty foundation and the Colourpop eyeshadow palette. I think that’s pretty good and even more than I expected. It’s not always easy to sell items because people sometimes offer very low bids. I think I’m pretty fair with my price point and I also have to pay for shipping so I’m not going to sell something for like $10 if it’s worth $50. Anyway, I get that people try to get some money off of it and that’s totally fine if it’s reasonable.

At the moment, people are favoriting my products which is super nice. It could be that they come back later to buy the product. It’s nice to save products you like for later, so I think that’s a smart and fun thing from the app. You also can follow people, if you want to stay updated on them. You’ll get a notification when they post new products.

Somehow I haven’t sold any clothes. I thought that it would be easier to sell clothes but I was wrong haha. If I’m not able to sell any of my clothes I will, of course, donate them. Same with the makeup.

Anyway, I enjoy selling products very much haha. It’s not even the money what makes me excited, I really enjoy making people happy with my products. However, it is nice to save some extra money and make room for new products. The process of cleaning out my drawers and closet made me more aware of how easy you buy products which you actually not really loved as much as you thought you did.

Pros:

  • Pretty easy to sell makeup
  • You’ll have more space
  • You make someone else happy
  • The app United Wardrobe is very nice

Cons:

  • You have to pay for shipping
  • 10% goes to United Wardrobe
  • Low bids

Final Thoughts

I like selling my stuff and I love to have some more space. I do think you have to pay for a lot of costs and in the end, you won’t earn a lot of money. I’m trying a little longer in hopes of selling more and I might try other platforms as well any time soon.

I’m sorry this is kinda a short blog post, I’m very busy with school and I thought this would be a fun blog post to write. I still hope you liked it! Let me know in the comments what you think.

Hope to see you next time loves,
