e.l.f. Camo Liquid Blushes Review: 4 Bold Pops Of Color
Blushes are my weakness. It doesn’t matter if they’re powder, cream, or liquid; I need them. Quickly after seeing the initial hype about the e.l.f. Camo Liquid Blushes, I just knew I had to try them myself. To be honest, I’m usually more drawn to higher-end brands, but I love to test affordable brands as well because brands like e.l.f. and NYX, for example, are killing it in the makeup industry.
Expensive doesn’t always mean better! And that’s precisely what I’ll put to the test in this review. Are these $7 liquid blushes any good, or would I recommend splurging on a high-end brand’s liquid blush like Rare Beauty or Saie?
I’ve Tested Lots Of Liquid Blushes, So You Don’t Have To
I’m a beauty editor and expert who has tested and thoroughly reviewed thousands of products over the past eight years. What once started as a passion for (new) beauty products and chatting about them is now this site, which is full of honest product reviews, beauty tips, and much more. All products reviewed are tested by me and on me for a while so I could share what I liked and disliked. You can read more about my review process here.
To streamline the testing process, I use a testing methodology to score a variety of categories on a scale of 1 to 10. The e.l.f. Camo Liquid Blushes were scored based on the following criteria:
- Ingredients
- Application
- Coverage
- Finish
- Longevity
- Stays on all day, not budging at all
- It has a pretty soft, dewy finish
- It is super pigmented (this is not for everyone)
- It contains skin-loving ingredients
- It is affordable and is a dupe for high-end brands’ blushes
- It is not the easiest application; it feels a bit stiff
- You have to work quite fast, or it dries down
A Quick Look At The e.l.f. Camo Liquid Blushes
e.l.f. promises a long-lasting liquid blush that is ultra-pigmented, allowing you to build and layer to achieve the perfect pop of color. It is infused with Hyaluronic Acid, Rose flower water, and Hibiscus flower extract, which are skin-loving ingredients. The dewy blush is lightweight and blends out into a soft finish.
About The Ingredients
The key ingredients in the e.l.f. Camo Liquid Blushes are Hyaluronic Acid, Rose flower water, and Hibiscus flower extract. As most of us know, hyaluronic acid has many benefits for the skin, and hydration might be its main powerful point.
Rose flower water might be less well-known, but this doesn’t mean that it’s less effective! Research has shown that rose water has multiple benefits for the skin; it helps soothe skin, reduces redness, contains antioxidants, has anti-aging properties, and enhances your mood.[1]
There’s not much research about the benefits of Hibiscus flower extract for the skin yet. However, I did find one study that talks about the richness and anti-aging properties of the Hibiscus flower extract as a skincare ingredient. [2]
As this is a blush and not a skincare product, I’m wondering how much of an effect these ingredients have on the skin. You may have to use the blush every single day to see any effects of the ingredients, but it’s good to know that they include skin-loving ingredients and no harmful ingredients whatsoever.
All e.l.f. products are free from phthalates, parabens, nonylphenol ethoxylates, triclosan, triclocarban, and hydroquinone. They are also cruelty-free and vegan.
The Results: e.l.f. Camo Liquid Blushes Review
The e.l.f. Camo Liquid Blushes come in simple packaging with a clean white cap. The formula itself is very lightweight and buildable (even though it is pigmented right from the start). It doesn’t stay sticky or greasy.
The Application
The e.l.f. Camo Liquid Blushes has a doe-foot applicator, which works nicely with a liquid blush, in my opinion. It’s easy to dot a bit of product onto the cheek and start blending. However, I noticed that you have to blend pretty quickly because the product dries down quite fast. On top of that, I found blending a little bit stiff – it wasn’t super smooth.
If you usually use a brush, I would recommend trying a sponge or your fingers. A brush made me struggle a bit more with the application, so my preferred method is to use a damp sponge. Dot the product on just one side, start blending it, and once done, move on to the other side. Otherwise, it’ll dry down, and you’ll have a dot print on your cheek, lol. Sadly, it will look a bit blotchy.
The Coverage
The coverage/pigmentation is intense; they’re highly pigmented. Based on this, they remind me of the Rare Beauty Liquid Blushes since these are also very pigmented. Be careful with how much you apply; just a dot might be enough to start with, especially with the brighter colors.
The Finish
This surprised me a bit because while I was blending the product, it looked matte. I wouldn’t have minded that, but as the brand claims this to be a dewy blush, I was a bit confused. However, once applied to the cheeks, I saw a soft, dewy finish, just as promised. Almost as if it magically showed up. It was a pleasant surprise, though, because I love dewy blushes.
The Longevity
There’s not much to say about the longevity; this product stays on. I wore it at home for 8-9 hours, to soccer games, and on general days out; it stays on all day without fading, smudging, or budging. Nothing happens, haha. It only comes off when you cleanse your face. That’s genuinely some impressive longevity!
Final Verdict: Are The e.l.f. Camo Liquid Blushes Worth It?
It’s definitely worth it, especially since they’re just $7 each. I’m still considering whether I think it’s better than Rare or Saie, but let’s say that it’s definitely a dupe. By the way, I’m working on a comparison post where I compare the three products’ claims and formulas and share their pros/cons, swatches, and much more—coming soon!
The blushes are very pigmented, so keep that in mind because not everyone will love them. They stay on all day, have a soft, dewy finish, and there are some pretty shades available. And again, they’re super affordable!
