I have always been a fan of the Kylie Cosmetics Lip Liners, which were firstly only available in the Lip Kit but later on sold separately as well. I seriously think I own hundreds of them. Recently, the Kylie Cosmetics Precision Pout Lip Liners launched, and I was intrigued. Are these just as good as the original gel-like lip liners… or even better? Do we need both in our collection? Or is one out of the two enough?

I decided to put the Kylie Cosmetics Precision Pout Lip Liners to the test! I purchased three shades (10 shades available), and one of them is Kylie Jenner’s favorite shade. Let’s find out why she loves that particular shade and these lip liners.

I’ve Tested Lots Of Lip Liners, So You Don’t Have To

I’m a beauty editor and expert who has tested and thoroughly reviewed thousands of products over the past eight years. What once started as a passion for (new) beauty products and chatting about them is now this site, which is full of honest product reviews, beauty tips, and much more. All products reviewed are tested by me and on me for a while so I could share what I liked and disliked. You can read more about my review process here.

To streamline the testing process, I use a testing methodology to score a variety of categories on a scale of 1 to 10. The lip liners were scored based on the following criteria:

  1. Ingredients
  2. Application
  3. Coverage
  4. Finish
  5. Longevity
6.8Expert Score

If you’re looking for a precise pencil to line your lips and have it stay on all day, you’ll like the Precision Pout Lip Liner! However, I would try the original Kylie Cosmetics Lip Liner if you have dry lips or want a smoother application.

A Quick Look At The Kylie Cosmetics Precision Pout Lip Liner

The Kylie Cosmetics Precision Pout Lip Liners are supposed to sculpt, define, and contour the lips. This new ultra-precise wooden pencil makes it easy to create perfect lines and a fuller-looking pout. It features a waxy texture and long-lasting formula, grips onto lips for seamless, tug-free application, and stays put without smudging or feathering.

About The Ingredients

First of all, the lip liners are cruelty-free, vegan and clean. You can check if they’re really clean with this clean ingredient checker, which indeed says that the lip liner doesn’t include any harmful ingredients.

Other than that, the ingredient list is not so special. It doesn’t contain harmful ingredients, but it also doesn’t contain ingredients that are, for example, hydrating or do anything positive for the lips.

The Results: Kylie Cosmetics Precision Pout Lip Liner Review

Comes Naturally is actually Kylie Jenner’s favorite shade, and I get why – it is also my favorite shade out of the three. It is a soft mauve that is not too warm or too cold. It is also very natural-looking, and if you know me, you know I love a good nude lip liner!

Saturn is supposed to be a nude beige, but it looks basically orange on my lips, which I don’t really like. I’m pretty sure I’m not going to wear this shade much—I may even declutter it soon. Smitten is a dusty rose and is very pretty. I expected it to be a bit more toned down, more of a “your lips but better shade,” but either way, I love how it looks.

The Application

The application is not that smooth, to be fairly honest. Waxy, smooth texture where? The lip liner is quite dry, so I have to really put some pressure and tug it to make sure it does what it’s supposed to do: line the lips. Filling in my whole lips with this lip liner is even less comfortable; it feels dry and also looks quite patchy.

My lips feel a little dry with the lip liner all over them, so I would recommend just lining the lips with this product. The formula reminds me of the MAC Cosmetics Lip Pencil, which I also think is quite dry and difficult to apply.

However, you can apply the lip liner with much precision and full control. Even over-lining the lips is possible due to the precision the lip liner offers, and it still looks naturally contoured.

The Coverage

The pigment of the lip liner is buildable, which I think is nice. You can go over with the liner a few times to make it look more pigmented, but if you want a soft look, then just one or two layers work perfectly fine. You can also easily smooth out the lines if you want a more blended look.

The Finish

The finish is matte—but also dry-looking if you fill in the lips. It doesn’t only feel dry; it also looks dry. It accentuates your lip lines a bit, so I like to add lipgloss/balm on top to get some hydration back.

However, just lining the lips gives a more comfortable finish that looks matte and gives the lips a fuller appearance. The lip liner also prevented my lipstick or lipgloss from bleeding or smudging, which is definitely a benefit.

The Longevity

The thing I like the most about the lip liners is their longevity. You can say what you want about them, but they stay put for hours and hours. After wearing them for 8-9 hours, I still had a line around the lips.

When I filled in the lips completely, the liner slowly faded in the center during the day (probably because I was wearing a glossy formula on top), but the outer lines always stayed put. The longevity is very impressive!

Comparison To The Original Lip Liner

As I said, I’m a huge fan of the original lip liner—see this review or this review—because it’s super creamy, glides on, and doesn’t budge. I use it just to line my lips or to fill in my lips, usually before applying lipstick or gloss on top.

I wouldn’t use the Precision Pout Lip Liner to fill in my lips—I did it for this review and to show off how the color looks on my lips, but I wouldn’t wear them like this on a daily basis. They’re just not as smooth and creamy as the original lip liners, so I would wear them to just line my lips.

Final Verdict: Is The Precision Pout Lip Liner Worth It?

Let’s first start by saying that I don’t think it’s a bad lipliner in any way. If you love a buildable, long-wearing lip liner, then the Kylie Cosmetics Precision Pout Lip Liners are an amazing option. However, they’re not my favorite type of lip liner. I prefer the original lip liner over this x10.
