The moment I decided to move my makeup collection to another room and new drawers, I also decided to do a good makeup decluttering session. I’m not good at throwing things out, but I knew I had some expired makeup and empty makeup products laying around. Just as I have products in my collection, I just don’t reach for anymore. So I decided it was definitely time for makeup decluttering!
Even though I love organizing and decluttering, makeup decluttering has always been hard for me. I’m getting attached to materialistic products pretty easily, especially makeup products. I know that’s a bit habit and I’m working on it by starting to just throw more things out. I mean things like paperwork, product packaging, old school books I still had laying around.
Once in a while, I also try to do a makeup decluttering session. I did one a while back, which you can read about here.
I’m not just throwing products in the trash, I’m also trying to sell products I barely or never used. Moreover, I’m also giving things to my mom and grandma if they like products. I don’t want my products to go to waste if I can make someone happy with it. However, some of the products are expired and I have to throw these away.
Alright, let’s start off by showing you all the products I decided to declutter.
I have been going through my makeup collection, as well as my brush collection. I already went through my skincare collection a while ago. Not all the products I’ve gathered are included in this post. I sold 4 Colourpop eyeshadow palettes, 1 Kylie Cosmetics palette, a couple of lipsticks from Colourpop and Sigma which I never used and I gifted my mom a couple of lipsticks which aren’t in this picture. In the end, my makeup decluttering session was even bigger than shown in the picture.
If you’re living in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany or France you can follow me at United Wardrobe, this is the place where I’m selling my makeup once in a while if you’re interested.
Most of these products are empty or expired. For example, the Chanel gloss was one of the first makeup products I’ve ever gotten so I think I was around 14 years old when I got it. I’m 23 years old now. I haven’t used it but couldn’t throw it away because of sentiment. Just as the Catrice Camouflage Cream, this has been in my collection for years and it dried down completely. The two Colourpop Super Shock shadows were pretty much empty and dried down.
All the liquid lipsticks in this picture are expired, especially the Jeffree Star bullet lipsticks. I have them for 2.5 years I guess but one of them turned almost yellow (it was a pinkish nude shade, ew) and the other one looked pretty good but when my mom put it on, her lips started burning so we knew it was time to get rid of them both!
The Kylie lippies aren’t expired yet, but I’m never wearing them. They just don’t look good on me. The reason why I’m throwing them away is that I think they’re so close to their expiration date that I wouldn’t be fair to give them away. Plus I also think I used them too much for selling them.
The Morphe Setting Mist is empty and was just laying in my drawer so it was time to throw it out. The Colourpop foundation has been nice to me but since I’ve been trying other brands and other formulas, I came to the conclusion I never reach for this foundation. It’s my least favorite foundation from the ones I’ve tried, but it’s definitely not a horrible product at all.
Both the eyeliners in the picture are pretty much empty and I already replaced them with literally the same products from the same brands (one is from Kylie Cosmetics, the other one is from HEMA which is a Dutch store and is basically selling drugstore products).
The only product I really didn’t like and even my mom didn’t like it, is the Colourpop blush and highlighter duo (the white packaging on the left). I didn’t really like the color on me and just wasn’t feeling it, my mom literally hated it because it is so powdery. Our whole bathroom was covered in powder after my mom used it, just as her clothes were covered in powder. It was actually pretty horrible and she wanted me to tell you guys this lol.
My mom is literally becoming a little reviewer too, she always comes up to me after trying new products and give her thoughts so I can share it on the blog, how cute?!
A couple of these brushes have been in my collection forever, especially the big powder brush and the fan brush. The big powder brush was the first-ever brush I bought, well actually I got it from my parents. This is a cute story though because I was like 14/15 years and pretty insecure about my skin tone.
Since I’m pretty pale myself and was extra pale back at that time because I was having chronical pain every day (which just made me paler), I was insecure. So my mom and dad took me to a local store and got my first ever bronzer (Anastasia Beverly Hills Sunkissed, which is now discontinued) and my first ever brush.
Both the products were pretty expensive for a 14/15-year-old girl with no job, but I got it from my parents because they wanted me to feel less insecure and I think that’s so sweet of them. So I had a really tough time throwing that brush out but it was so used, I just couldn’t work with it anymore.
Most of these brushes, I just didn’t like or never reached for them. The Morphe x Jeffree Star one is pretty new but I couldn’t use it properly anymore after I washed it once. I’m still disappointed about that though.
I’m throwing out most of the Mavior Beauty brushes as well since I think most of them are too soft so it’s hard to apply makeup. Also, the eye brushes gave me such a hard time blending my eyeshadow… I had patchy eyeshadow with a sort of gaps everywhere? Like I’ve never had that before and I used a palette which blends like a dream normally so I knew it was the brushes.
The Kylie brushes are in my collection for a long time too, it’s from the Valentine Collection 2 or 3 years ago. That set came with 5 brushes and I’m still keeping the other 3. My mom really wanted the contour brush and the other one I’m throwing out.
Overall, I think I did a pretty good job with makeup decluttering. However, I really have a hard time throwing out lipsticks and eyeshadow palettes. I probably have to go over them again any time soon and be a bit harder on myself.
Are you good at decluttering products?
See you next time loves,
